  • Director - Austin Hood

    CLUB DIRECTOR

    Club Director Austin Hood brings 12 years of coaching and administrative experience to Carolina Takedown Wrestling Club. Coach Hood currently serves as the Varsity Head Coach at Hammond School where he has helped lead the Skyhawks to 3 Dual Team State Championships and 8 State Final appearances since 2013. He has coached 25 SCISA State Champions to 48 Individual titles including 5 SCISA Most Outstanding Wrestlers and 10 National Prep Championships Qualifiers. As Director and Coach at CTWC Coach Hood as coached 2 SCUSAW Folkstyle Champions, 2 SCUSAW and c2 Freestyle Champs. He has also coached kids at NHSCA (Virginia Beach), USAW National Fargo (ND), and Super32 Coach Hood serves on the National Prep Wrestling Board and is the Tournament Director for the National Prep Southeast Regional. Coach Hood also serves as the Head of the SCISA Wrestling Coaches Association and is the Tournament Director for the SCISA Dual and Individual Championships. Coach Hood is a Bronze Level Coach with USA Wrestling NCEP, a member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), National High School Sports Coaches Association (NHSCA), and a National Federation of High School Sports (NFHS) Certified Head Coach. Coach Hood was a 100 win wrestler at Hammond School from 2004-2008 he was a 3x SCISA State Champion. Coach Hood is a married father of 3. He is a Project Manager at Hood Construction Company in Columbia and also served previously on the Wrestlers in Business (SC) board and remains an active member of WIBNSC.

  • Coach Aaron Pettry

    HEAD Coach - High School Dual Team, Freestyle

    Coach Aaron Pettry brings decades of coaching and wrestling experience to Carolina Takedown Wrestling Club. Coach Pettry is currently the Associate Head Coach at Hammond School where he has coached since 2013. During this time, he has coached the team to 8 finals appearances and 3 Team State Championships. He has coached over 20 Individual State Champions from SC. Coach Pettry also coached with the Enterprise Assassins Club (Enterprise HS) in Alabama where he coached multiple State Placers, State Champions, and a Fargo All American. Coach Pettry has trained wrestlers to compete in the biggest tournaments in the country including WHO'S #1, USAW Fargo Nationals, Super 32, NHSCA Virginia Beach Nationals and the National Prep Wrestling Championships . Coach Aaron is a Bronze Level Coach with USA Wrestling NCEP, a member of the National High School Sports Coaches Association (NHSCA), and a National Federation of High School Sports (NFHS) Certified Coach. As a wrestler, Coach Pettry accumulated over 150 Varsity wins at Hillcrest High School and was a SCHSL 4A State Runner Up. Coach Pettry currently serves as an Apache Pilot in the Army National Guard with over 15 years of service and multiple deployments.

  • Coach Michael DeVita

    Head Coach - Spring Folkstyle -

    Coach DeVita joins CTWC this spring to lead Open Practices. Coach DeVita was the assistant coach at Heathwood Hall for 4 years, the head coach at Hammond School for 2 years, and the Assistant Coach at River bluff High School for 2 years. He currently leads a Youth wrestling Team with the Shandon Sharks. During his time at Hammond, he ended the Skyhawks 5 year losing streak and brought them to a state championship title. He has coached numerous individual state placers and state champions and has helped to build multiple successful wrestling programs. He spent over 10 years working with HS kids through the ministry of Younglife and with the help of his now wife …started the inner city ministry of Younglife in downtown Columbia. He has a Masters degree in secondary education and was previously a certified teacher/coach/trainer for years. Coach DeVita was a 4A State Champion Wrestler at Hillcrest HS in 2007 amassing over 170 wins in his HS Career. He is a full time Realtor with the ART of Real Estate, and is part owner of the famous midlands gym, “Carolina CrossFit”, where he currently trains. He is married to a wonderful woman named Jaimie, and they have two little rambunctious boys named Jack and Riggs.
